By the green, you can tell this was taken earlier in the hiking season. We are lucky to live in an area that, while relatively densely populated, still has a good deal of open space, most of it wooded.

    Are they what the Native Americans call Lodge Pole Trees?

      No–lodge poles are pines. They grow out west, not here in New England. We’ve seen huge stands of them in our travels out there: they are impressively tall and stately. These are young maples.
